Professional Teeth Cleaning

Regular professional teeth cleaning (dental prophylaxis) is a core part of maintaining oral health. At Sinolle Dental Clinic our hygienists and dentists remove plaque, tartar (calculus) and surface stains that cannot be removed by home brushing and flossing alone. Cleanings help prevent tooth decay, gum disease and bad breath while keeping your smile fresh and healthy.

Why regular cleaning matters

  • Removes hardened tartar that brushing can't eliminate.
  • Prevents gingivitis and reduces the risk of progression to periodontitis.
  • Detects early problems — we spot cavities, cracks and oral lesions during visits.
  • Improves breath and helps maintain brighter teeth.

What to expect during a cleaning

  1. Examination: A clinician inspects teeth and gums and reviews your medical/dental history.
  2. Scaling: Using ultrasonic and hand instruments we remove plaque and tartar above and below the gum line.
  3. Polishing: Teeth are polished to remove surface stains and smooth the enamel.
  4. Flossing & Fluoride (when indicated): We floss thoroughly and may apply topical fluoride for added protection.
  5. Personalised advice: Home care tips, brushing/flossing technique and product recommendations tailored to you.

How often should I get cleaned?

For most patients we recommend a hygiene visit every 6 months. Patients with gum disease, heavy buildup, systemic health issues or higher risk factors may require 3–4 month maintenance visits. Your clinician will recommend an appropriate schedule based on your oral health.

Home care tips to prolong results

  • Brush twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste and a soft or electric toothbrush.
  • Floss daily and consider interdental brushes where recommended.
  • Limit sugary and highly acidic foods and drinks; rinse with water after staining beverages.
  • Use mouthwash if advised and follow any personalised product recommendations from your hygienist.
